For Second Chance hires adjusting to life after incarceration, the Human Resources department can play a crucial support role. While HR staff may not be trained social workers, they already invest time in managing workplace relationships and promoting cooperation skills that are especially valuable for supporting justice-involved employees.
 
With small adjustments, HR teams can help these employees navigate challenges like limited work experience, personal responsibilities, or reentry-related barriers. This approach can boost employee engagement, reduce turnover, and even positively influence the wider workforce. Employers working with community-based partners may also receive guidance on addressing life skills or resource needs specific to Second Chance hires.
