Primer on Terms Associated with
Connecticut’s Criminal Justice System

Community Programs and Resources

Alternative in the Community Centers (AICs): Diversionary programs operated by non-profit organizations for people under some type of criminal justice community supervision. AICs typically offer an array of services such as risk and needs assessment, employment/job development, substance use, family violence programming, cognitive behavioral skills building, and basic needs support.

CT Reentry Collaborative Councils (Reentry Roundtables): There are currently 10 regional reentry roundtables in Connecticut. These are collaborations of state and local organizations whose purpose is to identify and address gaps in services for returning citizens. These voluntary groups include a variety of housing, employment, addiction, mental health providers which try to coordinate services to provide wrap-around services for returning citizens.

CT Reentry Welcome Centers: These centers provide immediate support for returning citizens upon their release from correctional facilities. Each site is operated by a non-profit organization and are located in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, New London, and Waterbury. The centers offer basic needs and help returning citizens obtain a variety of social services including housing, employment, addiction, mental health, hygiene supplies, etc.
