Pathway 2

Finding Evidence of Rehabilitation

When a criminal record raises concerns, employers are encouraged to conduct an individualized assessment that looks at evidence of rehabilitation, key indicators that someone is ready and fit for employment.
Important factors include:

    • Time since conviction, with risk of reoffending decreasing significantly over time

    • Nature and context of the offense

    • Employment and education history, including job training and certifications

    • Involvement in counseling or support programs

    • Personal endorsements from mentors, educators, or parole officers

    • Support systems and signs of long-term stability

    • Possession of a Certificate of Employability

This holistic review helps ensure fairer evaluations and prevents strong candidates from being excluded based solely on past mistakes.
