Pathway 3

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs

Programs within USD #1 offer 15 state of the art vocational programs across 10 DOC facilities.

The programs are led by CT State certified instructors, offering both the hard and soft skills employers seek to enhance their businesses, including communications, teamwork, work ethic, critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, conflict management and problem problemsolving. From manufacturing to culinary arts, hospitality, carpentry and barbering, to name a few, successful students have the technical ability to immediately make a positive impact upon commencing employment. Instruction focuses on industry standard equipment, tools, software and formal processes that meet the foundational needs widely sought by employers. USD #1 communicates with Connecticut employers to ensure that the curricula is current and to develop relationships for students/future employees when they leave DOC, prepared to join today’s labor force.
