Connecticut Department of Correction

An all-too-often, unfortunate and inaccurate perception that the Connecticut Department of Correction is only in the business of warehousing individuals is just plain wrong!

The Connecticut Department of Correction has a wide ranging, robust series of Employment Preparation Programs, see APPENDIX 14, covering both interpersonal and occupational skill building that will facilitate a returning individual’s successful return to “life on the outside” with family, community ties and stable employment.

Employers that partner with the Department of Correction and many of the related pre- and post-release service providers are not just getting warm bodies who will do a job. In most cases they are getting engaged individuals, committed to learning and doing the best job they are capable of, and when issues arise that have the potential to interfere with life and work, as is likely to occur with all employees regardless of background, the Second Chance Hires are more likely to have a backup support team for added guidance and support.
